Factors Affecting the Cost of Shipping a Vehicle:

Distance

The distance the vehicle needs to be shipped is a major factor in determining the cost. Generally, the more miles the vehicle needs to be shipped, the higher the cost will be. However, the cost per mile may be lower for longer distances because the shipping company can spread the fixed costs of the shipment over a greater number of miles. For example, if a vehicle is being shipped 1,000 miles, the cost per mile may be $0.85. If the vehicle is being shipped 3,000 miles, the cost per mile may be $0.45

Location

The location of the origin and destination of the shipment can also affect the cost. Shipping a vehicle to or from a remote location will typically be more expensive than shipping to or from a major city. This is because shipping companies often charge higher rates for remote locations due to the increased cost of fuel and labor. For example, shipping a vehicle from New York City to Los Angeles may cost $1,000, while shipping a vehicle from a small town to Los Angeles may cost slightly more.

Size and Weight

Larger and heavier vehicles will cost more to ship than smaller and lighter vehicles. This is because larger vehicles take up more space on the trailer. Longer and taller vehicles require additional adjustment during transport, which may slightly increase the cost of transporting the vehicle For example, a standard sedan may cost $500 , while a large SUV may cost little bit more to ship.

Type of Shipping

There are two types of shipping method : Open transport and Enclosed transport. Open car transportation offers a budget-friendly way to ship vehicles over long distances. It’s convenient, with door-to-door pickup and delivery. Enclosed car transport is a type of shipping service that involves transporting a car in a fully enclosed trailer. This type of transport is often used for high-value or classic cars, as it provides the best protection but the same time price of the vehicle shipping is more pricy.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I transported both my cars from NY to Florida. This was my very first experience searching for a safe reliable car transport. The customer experience alone was a true Blessing. They spoke with me everyday & made me feel reassured. They walked me every step of the way from beginning to end making the experience a dream come true. Onyx also gave me a discount for transporting my second car. I will always truly recommend them to all my family & friends. Thank you Onyx..!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lela (scheduler) was great overall and her communication was perfect, and the price they quoted was very fair. One thing to note is that they tend to secure a driver closer to your actual dates, so having a flexible window for pickup and drop-off is important. It’s not their fault, though, this is just the nature of the industry, where they often wait for a driver to be assigned to the route, which can make scheduling a bit unpredictable. That said, they were punctual and showed up exactly when they said they would for both the pickup and drop-off of the car. The driver was nice and professional. No complaints here!! Thank you!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lela provided excellent service with the transportation of our two cars. One was shipped from Maryland to California, and the other from Maryland to Utah.

In both instances, Lela offered great service at a reasonable price, and the cars were delivered on time without any issues.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put personal items?

Passengers are permitted to bring personal belongings weighing up to 100 pounds in a suitably sized box or single piece of luggage. The dimensions of the luggage must be such that it can be accommodated within the trunk of the vehicle.

Is my vehicle insured during transport?

Your vehicle is protected by the carrier’s cargo insurance during shipping. This coverage ensures that your vehicle is insured against physical damage or loss while in the carrier’s possession. In addition to the carrier’s cargo insurance, we offer contingent cargo insurance that provides up to $250,000 in protection. This insurance acts as a safety net in case the trucker’s policy does not fully cover a valid claim.

When is the vehicle going to be picked-up?

After an order is placed, the company searches its car carrier network to find a trucker to transport the vehicle. They assign the best available trucker and provide an estimated pickup time. The trucker will then call the customer to confirm the details ahead of schedule.

When will my vehicle be delivered?

When you place an order, you will receive an estimated transit time for your shipment. This will give you a window for when your car will be delivered. Transit times depend on moving distance. With each delivery being unique, it is possible that your car would be delivered faster.Customers who have specific questions or concerns about delivery times can reach out to Onyx Auto Transport’s customer service representatives. The team is available to provide personalized updates on the status of shipments and assist with any additional queries.
